OUR TRAVEL TO MACEDONIA

Hi everyone!

We are Paula Pellín, Inés Antón and Marta Gómez.

In fact, it’s difficult and at the same time very easy to tell you about the opportunity that our school provided us.

The project consists of travelling to a country, which is member of the Project, and stay in students’ houses who later will come to our country and we will put them up in ours.

When we say that it’s easy to tell you about this experience it’s because we can perfectly relate to you our daily activities: what we did, what we learnt, what we discovered…But it’s very difficult to describe our feelings about all the situations we lived there.

People usually say that it’s not worth travelling to another country only for one week because you aren’t going to learn anything. But they are completely wrong.

First of all, you practise and learn more about the English language so that it was the only way of communication among the participants of the project who were from Latvia, Macedonia, Turkey and Portugal. Moreover, you learn about the different cultures, traditions and ways of living, completely different from ours.

Our adventure actually started when our teachers told us that we were selected to travel to Macedonia. From that point, we couldn’t stop thinking about how our travel would be. We were looking forward to that Sunday, 18th of February. We set off from Alicante to Barcelona by train. Once there, we took a flight to Skopje, Macedonia and we arrived late at night.

When we arrived, families and teachers were waiting for us very excitedly. The first feeling was very pleasant and from the first moment we felt like home.

The next day, all the Erasmus+ participants were welcoming by teachers and students at the Macedonian school. We spent all the morning doing presentations to get to know the different cultures from Portugal, Macedonia, Latvia,Turkey and Spain.

When all the participants’ tasks were finished, we chose the Erasmus + logo among all the logos presented by all the countries. The winner was the logo introduced by the Turkish team  and this will be the one which will represent our project called: We are different, we are Europe all together.

The following days, we did a lot of indoor and outdoor activities all together, such as different trips around the city. We went all over the city of Skopje, we visited churches, mosques, museums, monuments, squares, lakes, as well as other cities like Ohrid.

During our stay in Skopje, we met a lot of people from different countries and we established a friendship that we hope it will last forever.

We agree that it has been one of the best experiences of our lives and it will be unforgettable.

The fact that we have learnt to live in a different way from ours in a place that you can’t guess how it would be, was an enriching experience that made us mature.

The bonds created between us and the families were exciting because we felt like their own daughters. We are very pleased about the behaviour, attention and care received from all of them. In so little time they took up part of our hearts. We are so happy that our friendship still continues and we hope it will last for many years.

Finally, we would like to express thanks to our Headmaster because he allowed us to live this experience. Also we would like to thank Fernando and Estefanía because they were the teachers who went with us and share this adventure with us. And we also would like to thank Sonia, the Project coordinator, because without her hard work and persistence , this Project wouldn’t have been possible.

Thanks so much!
